RMKS/1.  The Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Energy Excellence Awards Program 
annually recognizes excellence in the areas of energy security, new 
technology, innovation, program management, and efficiency across the 
Department of the Navy (DON).  This year's submissions reflect the hard work 
and dedication of leaders across the Department who know that energy security 
is critical to mission success. 
 
2.  One Navy and one Marine Corps command will be selected from each category 
if applicable.  Award categories are listed as follows: 
    a.  Installation (Large).  This category is for DON installations with 
energy consumption greater than or equal to 500,000 million British Thermal 
Units (BTU) during the Fiscal Year (FY). 
    b.  Installation (Small).  This category is for DON installations with 
energy consumption less than 500,000 million BTU during the FY. 
    c.  Afloat (Large).  This category is for commissioned afloat combatant 
and amphibious naval units with crews greater than or equal to 400 personnel. 
    d.  Afloat (Small).  This category is for commissioned afloat combatant 
and amphibious naval units with crews less than 400 personnel. 
    e.  Afloat (Logistics).  This category is for auxiliary ships including 
all civil manned ships from the combat logistics force under Military Sealift 
Command. 
    f.  Aviation (Large).  This category is for DON air group sized units 
operating under aircraft controlling custodians. 
    g.  Aviation (Small).  This category is for DON squadron and detachment 
sized units operating under aircraft controlling custodians. 
 
3.  After careful consideration of all the nominations received, it is my 
pleasure to announce the 2022 SECNAV Energy Excellence Award winners: 
    a.  Installation (Large) - Naval Air Station Jacksonville and Marine 
Corps Base Camp Lejeune 
    b.  Installation (Small) - Naval Support Activity Mid-South and Marine 
Corps Air Station Miramar 
    c.  Afloat (Large) - USS IWO JIMA (LHD-7) 
    d.  Afloat (Small) - USS PRINCETON (CG-59) 
    e.  Afloat (Logistics) - USNS LEROY GRUMMAN (T-AO-195) 
    f.  Technology Development & Acquisition - Naval Surface Warfare Center

4.  The SECNAV Award winners are authorized to fly the SECNAV Energy Flag for 
one year.  Commands should contact Ms. Anne Ng, Office of the Assistant 
Secretary of the Navy (Energy, Installations and Environment) at (703) 614-
5516 or by e-mail at anne.k.ng.civ@us.navy.mil to coordinate receipt of a 
flag and plaque.
