On 26 June 2023, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) kicked off its fourteenth Annual Feds Feed Families (FFF) Food Drive. USDA requests support from federal employees to bring non-perishable food items to their offices for collection and distribution to local food banks and pantries in order to alleviate food insecurity in our communities. The Department of Defense (DoD) is again participating in this year's food drive and encourages the Department of the Navy's (DON) support. 2. In 2022, the DoD contributed over 4.7 million pounds of non-perishable food, with the Navy and Marine Corps team contributing over 220,568 pounds. This year's 2023 FFF food drive, which runs through 29 September 2023 highlights "A Summer of Giving," and seeks to build upon last year's tremendous accomplishment. To learn more on how and where to give donations, organize food drives, and other useful resources, federal employees can go to the website: https://fedsfeedfamilies.ocio.usda.gov/. 3. DON federal employees are free to participate and support the FFF food drive. Participation is purely voluntary, and opportunities include giving personal time outside of the office to participate in activities such as harvesting or gleaning on farms or gardens, volunteering at food banks, or serving at a feeding program. 4. In order to build upon the successes of recent years, the DON encourages the Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) and the Commander, Marine Corps Installations Command (MCICOM) to participate in this year's FFF food drive by serving as the communication liaisons, through their chaplains' offices and associated ministries. Historically, the chaplains' offices have coordinated the FFF food drive efforts between USDA, fleet installations, bases, and stations. The DON Assistant for Administration, Programs and Integration Division, will serve as the communication liaison within the Office of the Secretary of the Navy. 5. Any questions concerning the FFF campaign can be directed to Ms. Lisa Brookes, DON FFF Champion who can be reached via e-mail at lisa.f.brookes.civ @us.navy.mil or (703) 695-0541.
